The Pilot Twins

The pilot twins, Michael and Mercedes. Their father, Brandon, committed suicide when they were twelve and it casted a dark cloud over the way they viewed the world. They continued to live with their mother, Rosemary, who still mourned Brandons death.

When the pair turned seventeen, they decided to commit suicide themselves, severely depressed with the world around them. Michael cut himself up in the bath and Mercedes attempted to overdose, but they are cut short when their mother discovers Michael in a red bathtub. The three go to the hospital where Michael is soon after committed to the Theowick Psychiatric Facility, not only suicidal but seemingly disturbed.

Mercedes is tested too but no one knows of her own failed attempt. She is able to lie flawlessly and pass the test, knowing full well Michael lied to get locked up. She doesn't understand why her twin is suddenly so.. confusingly different, but she trusts him to do what he needs. She's afraid of being locked up, having no control, but before Michael is committed, he says that maybe he deserves it. He also says he doesn't want to see their mother again, blaming her for what happened to their father, but asks that Mercy write to him, important details in code. They don't see eachother again for several years.

The twins have thick, brown hair, dark blue eyes, and pale skin with a dusting of freckles, Mercedes is obsessed with death, while Michael becomes obsessed with life, each thoroughly depressed around the time of their attempts. They were very close, smart, and highly observant. The classic creepy twins that didn't smile often after their father's passing. They didn't have friends, but were absorbed with learning- not that that changes much for them.
